That’s why we’ve taken the time to put together a short guide of things to keep in mind when teaching your kiddo the ins and outs of roller skating. Check it out!

Safety first – Just like riding a bike, learning to master roller skating takes a few tries and trials. This means that your kiddo may take a plunge to the ground at one point in time. It’s important to be ready for those events. A helmet, elbow, wrist guards and knee pads will help protect your little one’s hands and knees if they take a tumble. Using these safety precautions will make it easier for them to dust themselves off and get back up again.

Practice at a rink – What better why to practice roller skating than to visit Skate Moore, lace up your skates and get out on the floor!? Visiting the roller rink at least once a week will help with establishing your roller skating skills.

Assume the correct posture – Place your feet shoulder width apart, bend your knees, and squat. Lower your backside toward the ground and lean slightly forward in a comfortable squatting position. When you’re roller skating, balance is key, and this stance will prevent you from toppling over.

Freeze tag

Lace up your skates and have fun with friends with this classic game. One person is selected to be the “tagger.” This person goes around trying to tap their friends, while everyone else tries their best to stay away from the tagger because if they are tagged-they’re frozen!

Limbo

A classic game of limbo, on roller skates! See how low you can go on skates. Don’t touch the stick.

Relay races

Classic relay races are also fun on roller skates. Pick up speed and bring your team to victory!

4 Corners

Everyone skates until the music stops then everyone has to skate to 1 of the 4 corners of the rink. With their eyes closed, one designated person calls out a corner 1-4. If your corner is called out, you are eliminated. The game goes on until only 1 person is left standing.
