• Pick a theme. In an earlier blog post, we picked our favorite birthday party themes. You could include any of these themes in your family outing. Get accessories or costumes to take the fun to the next level.
• Talk with a funny accent. Make a rule where your family has to all speak in a certain accent the entire time you are on the rink.
• Take your family for their favorite wheel shaped treat afterwards. Burgers, PB cups, donuts, and pizza all apply.
• Have a roller skating themed fort night in the living room, basement, or play room. Take the kids out for a night of roller skating, and then finishing up the night with a roller skating movie. Once you pick a theme, here are some creative ways to incorporate the theme into your party planning:

• Dessert. You can bring your own dessert into Skate Moore, so find something fun to bring like disco ball or unicorn cake pops or cupcakes with alien slime green icing and galaxy dust on top.
• Decorations. When picking out paper goods and decor to bring to Skate Moore, pick a color scheme to stick to that goes along with your theme.
• Costumes. Giving a party a theme does not mean that you and your guests have to come completely in costume (even though it would be a blast). You can provide masquerade masks, disco afros or unicorn headbands for your guests upon arrival. This will make for a lot of fun and awesome pictures.

People who grew up in the 80’s will be able to tell you about roller skating with great nostalgia. Skating is all about physics. Understanding the hows and whys of skating can give your kids some really great insights into the fundamentals of matter in motion. Getting from point A to point B might seem like a no brainer but there’s a lot going on under the radar to make it happen.

Rolling, Pushing and Turning; It’s All Physics!

When you push off with your wheels and start rolling forward, the backward thrust of the push is what sets you in motion. Your wheels and bearing reduce friction allowing you to roll. The smoother the surface, the less resistance your skates have to deal with which means you’ll go even farther and even faster the smoother the surface is.

In physics this is called the law of momentum, which states that an object in motion will stay in motion until an outside force causes it to slow down or stop. In this case, you can think about your breaks as that outside force. At Skate Moore, out polished hardwood roller rink is so perfect for gliding on wheels that you’re liable to keep going forever if you don’t have breaks. Your breaks create friction and slow your momentum.

• Disco Skater – Revisit roller skating’s heyday with some bell bottoms and a flashy silk shirt. You’re sure to skate with serious style all night long.
• Roller Derby Girl – Lace up your high-tops and don your favorite high-waisted shorts with a jersey and you’ll be ready to throw a shoulder block with the best of them … or at least look the part.
• Pun Costumes – Okay, so maybe punny costumes aren’t exactly skating related. But they’re still fun and as long as you’re on skates, it’s all good. You could get a red wig and a baguette and call yourself a gingerbread man. The social butterfly is a good one too. Simply buy or make butterfly wings and print out some social media icons to tape to your shirt!
• Group Costumes – the only thing better than dressing up is dressing up with a group of friends. From soda bottles to rock, paper, scissors, there are tons of great group ideas out there.
